About Me - as an artist

A.P. Cooper was born in 1966 in the small Pennine town of Shaw, to the north of Cottonopolis.

 

Being Manchester it rained a lot. Growing up in the shadow of the Pennines A.P. spent much of his youth at his Irish grandmother’s house, from here he would go exploring in the hills and disused quarries. This post industrial landscape proved to be fertile soil for his imagination. Dreaming of magical mythical beasts, or impossible futures, the young A.P. was drawn irrevocably to the world of art.

 

He studied art for several years before working a few not so glamorous jobs, until eventually he began working in game design. A career he enjoyed for many years, until in 2020 there was this virus.

 

With time on his hands A.P. took the decision to delve into the myriad of stories and images that had been a long time fermenting in the back of his mind. Putting pencil to paper, out popped the ideas one by one. They were never in the right order. Nobody had told him that this was going to be difficult!

 

A.P. still lives in Shaw, he’s married to Wendy and they have two grown up children, Jake and Ella. He’s still exploring those hills on foot, or by mountain bike but now his knees are creakier.

 

A.P. owns many waterproofs……….
